Like most moms, I found it very difficult to get back into “shape” after my fourth son was born. Even though I tried to work out on a regular basis, I had a closet full of excuses that I would throw up when someone challenged me to really get fit.
I was stuck at a weight I didn’t like. I didn’t like how I looked in the mirror and I was frustrated that my dress size wasn’t budging. About four years after my last child was born, I decided to become a certified Zumba instructor. This small step served as the ember that set my passion for fitness on fire.
But, I soon saw that the cardio benefits of Zumba were not enough so I added a Pilates certification to my resume’, which gives me the toning and flexibility training all women need. Yet, despite the fact that I was teaching eight plus classes a week, I was disappointed that I wasn’t loosing fat.
It wasn’t until I modified my diet, cutting out bread and bread products (most of the time), increasing protein intake, and eating modified portions that I truly saw a full body change. My goal now is to keep setting goals. I am working on becoming a personal trainer and adding strength training to my weekly routine. I can honestly say at 40, I am in the best shape of my life.
